Osaru Obaseki is a Visual Artist from Edo state, Nigeria. The graduate of Management sciences from the University of Port Harcourt started her artistic journey as a child.
“Being creative is a God given talent for me because I did not have to go to school to study art before becoming a visual artist, but I still have plans on furthering my education majoring in Fine Arts.”
“In the year 2015 I started practicing through personal self development. I started off as a fluid artist through exploring the flow and synergy of colours on canvas. My fluid paintings captured the outlook of the atmosphere more in an abstract form, which was able to create life and meaning towards climate change and the atmosphere through understanding colours and the different moods, emotions and sensed they carried.”
“In the year 2017, I had to quit the corporate world in order to focus more on my Art. I joined the Nosona Studios under the Edo global Art Center platform in September and ever since it has been a great experience with great tutorage which attracted lots of transformation towards my Art.”
“My self discovery over time has led to my sole desire to communicate and put out statements of my feelings and opinions about individuality, societal sense of value and identity, sexuality, spirituality, societal vices, socio-cultural and economical needs of people.”
Speaking concerning her art, Osaru says, “My art depicts self awareness, self acceptance, repressed individualism, strengths, sense of emerging, thereby bringing into play the irony of opposite sides – Life being contained with joy and sadness, flourish and pain, riches and hunger, unity and chaos which in all shows the possible (what we can do to make things better) and the obvious (what our reality is) which is the two sides to a coin.”
“My Art is influenced greatly by my culture and heritage, the challenges and the successes of my environment and how I perceive people and the world.”
