Luke Chidiebube Agada, also known as Father’s Heart is a self-taught Nigerian Visual Artist whose primary media of expression is oil paint and mixed media on canvas.
The graduate of Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun state, has always been fascinated with art since he was a child.
“My enthusiasm grew as I gradually began to explore the world of art. While in Vet school, the idea of practicing art fully as a career sounded absurd to me with no formal background in art, but gradually as I progressed in my study I began to see art as a calling and a huge part of my purpose in life. The dots began to connect and my dreams began to crystallize as I met many more folks like me.”
“My journey in art started when my mother got me my first set of water colour. As a child, I had always been fascinated about drawing pictures from my school textbooks; I grew to love the sight of my small-sized paintings and drawings hanging on the wall of my parent’s living room.”
“During my period as an undergraduate, I gradually sharpened my oil painting and drawing skills without any formal art training, juggling both my academics (which was so time-demanding) and passion at the same time.”
“Inspired by the need to awaken the hidden talents and creativity in students that have been curbed by the strict traditional system of education adopted by the Nigerian higher institutions of learning, I co-founded the campus artists community known as FUNAAB Art Beat during my fourth year and had my debut group show in 2016.”
“In 2017, I partook in a state art exhibition; Eko Art Expo 2017, in Lagos. I am currently the Co-Talent manager at KUTA Nigeria, channelling part of my creative energy to inspire and raise other emerging artists to be vital forces of positive change in the society.”
“I work in a genre of art called surrealism. Using the oil paint media on canvas, I express surrealistic images and sceneries that address the issues that influence the mindset of the average young people in today’s third world nations and on the state of the human mind in comparison to its ability and potential to achieve great feats.”
According to Luke, his art is expressed in this way because he is inspired to change the mindset of the average young person in the so-called third-world nations of the African continent.
“I am driven by the empathy of being one of those whose voices have been buried in the basement of some much political chaos and societal disequilibrium.”
“I am inspired by my desire to show the irrefutable relationship between the physical existence of human and the unseen forces of life, the abstractions that govern the activities of life.”
“I have seen how looking at a painting can influence the thinking of a person. I have also come to understand that deep seated in the core of art is its hidden ability to change the world.”
