David Akinola is a visual artist whose style is figurative, non-objective and combination of both, with interests in psychology, architecture, women amongst others.
Speaking on how he started, he had this to say, “I have been interested in art since I was four years old when I noticed my family making Christmas decorations. Since then, I never left art and art never left me. I’m now at the point where I don’t make decor, but valuables that serve as investments for collectors and so on. I’m currently working on my first solo exhibition which should be done in about a year.”
“At the core, I want to bring people’s attention to how their mind works as a result of the amount of information they consume. This stems from my interest in psychology. At other times, there’s something beautiful and powerful the female form is exuding which I want to bring the viewers attention to. Lastly, there may be no message at all. Sometimes, I really don’t want it to carry one, but I find some viewers looking for the message there, like “where’s it hiding?”, “what does this mean?” “what does this say?” which is very interesting.”
Humans inspire his art. “Their existence, experiences, desires, ambitions, beauty… pretty much everything inspires me.”
