The news is packed with statistics and updates on the challenges we face as global citizens. Sometimes it can seem as though there are too many – from climate change, to a rare disaster or pandemic, these crises impact children, families, and nations around the world each year. According to W.H.O, the rise of Ebola in Congo resulted in one of the world’s largest and most complex humanitarian crises, catastrophic flooding affected close to 2.2 million people in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. These are some of the major crises that have affected millions of people. Another example is the sudden emergence and rapid worldwide spread of the Coronavirus which shows the failure of existing healthcare surveillance systems to timely handle public health emergencies.
Our goal with this edition is to shed more light on how to reduce the impact of a crisis, what to do in the face of uncertainty and capture the stories of professionals who have made it a personal mission to limit the impact of the current COVID-19 crisis while reminding the world that there is still hope.
On a final note, we all have a part to play in the fight against the pandemic. We must keep fighting and never lose hope. Together, we will soar through uncertainty.
