Tony Efeakpokrire, also known as Tonardo, is a Visual Artist and CEO of Tonardo Art lounge.
“I and my informal team of creatives fulfil your artistic desires through art commissions, sales of art works, home decor, crafts, art inspired apparel and many more.”
I started drawing at a tender age inspired by my elder brother, Mr Goldberg Tugba who like me has artistic inclinations, I started out making scribbling and comics during my secondary school days and I remember being commissioned by the principal of my school to make a series of illustrations.”
“I studied art at the prestigious School of Art and Industrial Design, Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo state, where I obtained my National and Higher National Diploma respectively and graduated as best student in painting during my academic session.”
“While I was in school, I was the President of the National Association of Fine and Applied Art students, Federal Polytechnic Auchi chapter and interim President National Association of Fine Art Students. I always aspire to inspire people through my art because I believe art is a viable means of peace and sustainable development in contemporary Nigeria.”
“I draw inspiration from the ordinary; the good, bad and ugly with an underlying understanding that there is an invisible thread that binds us all.”
Speaking on a project that made him believe in himself, he says, “After my NYSC, I started exploring opportunities in Warri and got this huge mural painting commission for Achievers bar in Warri, I painted Fela kuti, Lionel Messi, Cristano Ronaldo and some add-on designs on the wall surface and the feedback I got from the commissioner and people around boosted my morale. It increased my confidence about my skills and talents.
Now, “I am looking for opportunities to access funding and learning resources to expand my art business and gain new knowledge and skills that will increase the value I bring to the marketplace fulfilling the artistic desires of my prospective clients.”
Youth empowerment, Tony Efeakpokrire believes, is a core value that promotes National development. “History has taught me that for a Nation to become great she must invest in human capital. The Nigerian youth can best be empowered by creation of opportunities to learn new skills, how to run a successful business and most importantly access to adequate funding to build their entrepreneurial dreams.”
