Philips Imoesi Sule, also known as Philslex, is a shoemaker who is into the production of leather foot wears (shoes, sandals, slippers) and other leather accessories such as belts, bags and wallets.
Philips says passion drove him to start the business. “Because of the passion I had for shoe making, I enrolled with an artisan around my area for training; this, I attended mostly after my CDS and on weekends. After completion of my NYSC program, I had the opportunity to fully commit myself to the practice more. On May 26, 2017, Phil’s Footprints was officially born.
He admitted to have faced hurdles such as financial constraints to start up, unstable electric power supply in the country among many other economic hiccups. But notwithstanding, he keeps striving to reach the height he has envisioned.
His inspiration comes solely from God
Talking about the project he has done that increased his believe in himself, he says, “Creating the brand, Phil’s Footprints, and managing it daily has giving me so much confidence in myself that I can achieve anything if I set my mind to it and I give God the glory for that.”
Now, he is hoping for investment and grants from both governmental and non-governmental organisations, so as to establish Phils Footprints as a household name within and outside Nigeria.
On his opinion on youth empowerment, he advises the youths “to be self conscious, discover their path, forge ahead and carve a niche for themselves. It’s highly necessary for youths to learn a trade/handwork so as to be self reliant. The Government has its role to play in youth empowerment by assisting and encouraging the numerous numbers of young and vibrant entrepreneurs in this country by giving out loans, grants and other services.”
