Ingressive for good Announces Strategic Partnership with Coursera to train 5000+ African Youth

Coursera Press Release - The Spark

Monday, November 23, 2020 – Ingressive For Good has announced a partnership with Coursera to provide African youth in tech with the soft and hard skills they need to increase their earning power in the tech ecosystem. The new partnership is part of Ingressive for Good’s goal to equip young Africans in need with tech skills to help them impact and contribute to the development of Africa, socially and economically by providing access to world-class high-quality training online and offline.

The I4G Coursera program was available to tech enthusiasts in Africa looking to hone and scale their tech skills and be job-ready for employment opportunities in the tech ecosystem. The program gave 5000+ Africans access to 4000+ courses with an intensive curriculum designed to prepare learners for entry-level and expert roles in the tech ecosystem from leading universities such as Yale, Michigan, and Stanford, as well as industry leaders such as Google and IBM. It also provided access to highly sought-after professional certificates and high-demand skills in areas like personal development, technology, and career development to build a well-rounded tech professional ready for the job market.

“Coursera was the perfect partner because this aligned seamlessly with their global roll-out of the Workforce Recovery Initiative, where any state and country can provide citizens with free access to online learning. Out of 20,000+ applicants, 5,000+ were chosen and in less than two months there have been over 24,793 enrollments, 43,014 learning hours spent, 46,047 lessons taken, and over 100 people placed in jobs. Throughout this journey, we have seen the value of peer-to-peer learning as a catalyst for deeper learning facilitated by I4G Circles Study Groups in multiple cities across Africa. We have had so many success stories and the response is really wonderful. We continue to see members of the I4G network who have successfully gone through the I4G Coursera program grow their careers and also use their skills to benefit their communities” – Blessing Abeng, the Director of Communications at Ingressive For Good shared.

Coursera, the world’s leading online learning platform was inspired by Ingressive For Good’s mission and is certain this connection to communities focused on tech will provide access to extra skills and help inspire the next generation of techies in Africa.

“Coursera is honoured to support I4G in its commitment to upskill African youth.” said Anthony Tattersall, Vice President EMEA at Coursera. “Through access to high-quality online learning, young people will be able to gain the critical skills needed to swiftly enter the workforce, as well as explore new careers in technology.”

When speaking to the COO of Ingressive For Good, Sean Burrowes, he told us that “Coursera represents the new normal in education in the post COVID world. 5,000 registrants and or long waiting prove that our Nigerian I4G community understands the value of learning technical skillsets online. The jobs connected and the feedback tells us our partnership works! In one of our meetings with Coursera, they told us Ingressive For Good is in the top three for the entire Coursera program regarding enrollments and activity. We are one of the most active communities they have ever had on the platform.”

To benefit from other Ingressive For Good Opportunities, join the I4G Network of over 17000 tech enthusiasts across 55 cities across Africa.
