Stephanie Chidimma Unaeze is a Visual Artist and Designer. “I also illustrate and do photography.”
“I’m self taught artist and illustrator, I studied Computer Science and currently finishing an Art and Design program at Parsons School of Design. Initially I drew as a way of expressing myself and the emotions I was going through.”
“Then I started posting my pieces on Instagram and I got such great feedback that it made me realise that there’s so much more I can do with my talent and my creativity. Currently I’m working and living as an artist and enjoying every moment of it. I have been thinking a lot about creating functional art that’s deeply rooted in African culture.”
“My art portrays the African woman existing in modern times; I like to explore her layers, her spirituality and her zest for life. I believe the African woman shouldn’t be afraid to walk in her light and to manifest all the different sides of her personality. There’s no one way to be a woman, we don’t need to be small and quiet if we don’t want to be. There shouldn’t be a singular narrative for the African woman.
Stephanie is inspired by Music, books and poetry. “I try my best everyday to represent words and sounds in a visual form.”
