Chelsea FC has not given up hope of signing Asmir Begovic after they reportedly made an improved offer for the Stoke City goalkeeper.
The Premier League champions tabled a £6 million bid for the Bosnia-Herzegovina international earlier this week in their search to replace Petr Cech, who completed his move to London rivals Arsenal on Monday.
But after seeing their initial approach knocked back by the Potters, the Blues are believed to have returned to the bargaining table with a new £8m offer for a player who is in the final 12 months of his contract.
The Staffordshire outfit was keen to keep the 28-year-old at the Britannia Stadium, but talks over a new deal have not progressed, with Begovic looking increasingly likely to move on during the off-season transfer window.
Aston Villa also failed with a bid for the former Portsmouth keeper as Tim Sherwood looks for competition for his first-choice between the posts, Brad Guzan, but Stamford Bridge is his expected destination.
