Segun Adeniyi Okewumi is a visual artist that specialises in sculpture.
The graduate of Yaba College of Technology and current student of Art at the Obafemi Awolowo University, received formal training at Visual Art Center, Ibadan, where he fully discovered his creative abilities.
“I am so glad to have been influenced by Adeola Balogun, Richard Mc Donald, Basil Watson, Edosa Ogiugo and Javier Marine. I also have tremendous admiration for my mother who has given me a lot of support in my career. This amazing woman has been a great source of inspiration to me and that has opened a fountain of creative impulse on several occasions.”
“My works radiate Empathy for the underprivileged in the society. Bursts of human activity often fire my vibrant imagination. I have special reverence for motherhood and like to celebrate Mothers generally in my works.”
Segun okewumi frequently express his artistic philosophies in recycled media. “I was attracted to sculpture because of its three dimensional view and the level of concentration that sculpture inherently requires.”
He would like to be noted for his uniqueness, freshness and contribution to social reform. “I derive particular joy from what I create from discarded material and the joy their final form give to Art Patrons.”
“I would say balancing my education with my art practice and not having my own personal Art Studio are my challenges but no road without its lumps but determination and focus has always kept me going in my field of Art.”
