Reasons 1st Class Students Hardly Become 1st Class People In Life

Hardly do first class graduates become first class personalities. While in University, we often spend too much energy in acquiring good grades that we forget to acquire good personalities. After concentrating all energy in acquiring the first class grades, we transition into a society where first class grades don’t matter much as having a first class personality. In school, it’s easy to read, memorize and pass exams, but in real life, there is no sure book of life to progress, no memorizing, no exams, just you and your inbuilt capability which require contests with no one.

Those who eventually become big in life are mostly people who hardly make good grades in school.

Prof. Abletor Sedofia from University of Ghana has this to say:

“Academic excellence is overrated! Did I just say that? Oh, yes, I said it. Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life.

You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn’t mean you will make more money than everybody else. The best graduating Law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer.

The fact is life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorise it and reproduce it in an exam.

School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination and innovations. School rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules. Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones.

So do I mean people shouldn’t study hard in school? Oh, no, you should. But don’t sacrifice every other thing on the altar of First Class. Don’t limit yourself to the classroom.

Do something practical. Take a leadership position. Start a business and fail. That’s a better Entrepreneurship 101.

– Join or start an association.
– Contest an election and lose. It will teach you something that Political Science 101 will not teach you.
– Attend a seminar. …Read books outside the scope of your course.
– Go on missions and win a soul for eternal rewards. Do something you believe in! Think less of becoming an excellent student but think more of becoming an excellent person. Make the world your classroom!

Have a great life!

The position is not correct. Many first class become first person in life. The article is out of order.I have seen several failure in school who fail in life.avaoid over generalisation.Victory or success in life do not depend on first class, second class or your personal effort but God dont give credit to your self chance befalls all the same way

yeah i support the article. our werstern masters have structured education to only make us read, memorise, write and pass exams but what we should understand is that, each and everyone has a unique inbuilt something that when exhibited positively will lead to an oustanding personality among others. let us think and use our resourses to gain more sources that will lead to more influences

It is we, Africans that have refused to break away from the conventions of early times. The world evolves continually and a lot of the theories adopted today were propounded years ago. While the world needs new or modified theories and better implementation, Africans prefer to devote the bulk of their funds to serve personal gains rather than reap future benefits. This is not the case in western(advanced societies) as there is huge investment on research and further discovery which is incorporated with their academics!

This article is right! It just fails to stress that you can actually achieve a better personality while striving for better grades.

when you lable the enemy of anything a certain something, i.e the devil, western masters….etc you are taking yourself out of the equation of responsibility for yourself(failures/successes), life is not a system or an organisation, and if you understand that, it means nothing can be so perfectly planned and organised to so faultlessly be at fault for everything

We can create our own opportunities in life now if we r able to sit down and think to create our own jobs and employ others to work under our supervision.

This article is too generalised, biased and lacks detail research. These Professors always try to convince people on what they think not what is reality. Please tell me of a person who had good grades in school or university who did not succeed in life except when he made wrong choices and lacked moral value. Even those who are not good academically if they choose the right direction and carriers they succeed. The problem is on finding on what you or what each individual is good at and follow that path. I have guys whom I went to school with who were excellent academics and are now successful doctors, I have guys who were not good in school but have become successful farmers. Sometime its opportunities that make people fail to achieve what they are best on. Some did not get the land to farm, some could not get the best school or universities. This professor is talking like an economist who says hold all other variables constant (Ceterus puribus) and the outcome must be this which totally wrong.

Am a student of marketing, a third class student in class but in the real world I see myself as a first class student, I do personal research read books on marketing that my lectures are not even aware of, I have a business dat am running presently that I really think it’s my future am even thinking of dropping out in my 3rd year by the way

Like the article indicated both academic greatness and a good personality are important. I think what Prof is trying to discourage is the over-emphasis on academics which on its own does not create success in life.
Take it or leave it businesses the success today is being influenced to a great extent by “links”. Some students are so busy making first classes that they do not have time to even socialise. where will such students get the ‘LINKS”

Prof, with due respect I do believe the reality of the fact you are trying to establish, it all lies on the saying that, it’s not how one started that matters, but how he/she ended, hence first class is not the end of life, but a shadow of that proves that success is achievable. To we have established a forum where those of regarded as failure comes to explore in the world of reality, cleaving in new and better idea on vital part of life.
