It was a confusing confrontation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, yesterday, as some unidentified men, who claimed to be policemen threatened to open fire on the Super Eagles’ players who were on a mission to arrest Chairman of the League Management Committee, Shehu Dikko.

The Super Eagles had just arrived from Ndola where they went for their 2018 World Cup qualifying match away to Zambia, before being approached by the unidentified men.

According to, having failed to provide IDs nor warrants, Dikko told the men he would take their numbers and would see the Commissioner of Police in the morning.

At this point, Super Eagles players were hurriedly ushered into their bus and driven off as the situation escalated.

An eye witness said: “One of the men pointed his side arm at Kelvin Omuojine as he took his picture and discharged the firearm in the air as other journalists gathered.

“His colleague also joined in with a drawn firearm as he threatened to shoot all of us journalists.

“We made it clear to them they couldn’t shoot all of us before they were overpowered”
