Temiloluwa and Similoluwa Oni are twins and co-owners of Hems and Trimmings, a fashion outlet. They are both fashion designers, who make female wears, due to their flair for fashion and women clothing. This passion was what pushed them into learning the skills involved while they were still in the University and even during NYSC. To further polish their talent, they recently, in 2017, trained at the Vlisco Master class for experienced tailors.
They have faced several challenges as budding entrepreneurs; however, the most prominent ones are friends and family expecting services at a cheaper price because of the relationship. They also noted limited funds and electricity among the challenges they face.
Temi and Simi are inspired by everything around them; women, fabrics, pictures on social media platforms like Pinterest, Instagram and many others.
Talking about the project that cemented their belief in their craft, they mentioned a time that they had to work on a dress for someone without physical contact. The lady sent in her measurement and they were proud to find out that it was perfect. Their training with the Vlisco Master class has also helped the way they see themselves. The twins felt the training they received from some of the highest professionals in the fashion industry both within and outside the country increased their confidence.
However, they are still hopeful for funds to expand their business.
Speaking on Youth empowerment, the fashion duo says,
“Youth empowerment is very important because it gives power to young people to take charge of their lives. The Nigerian youth can be empowered through mentor-ship, skill acquisition, encouraging participation in community projects and giving the young people a seat at the table to participate in important decision making processes.”
