Lilian Uche Uma is a Fashion Designer and a Vlogger.
Speaking on how she started, she has this to say, “I have always loved working with my hands. In my university days, I would go on YouTube and browse how to DIY clothing and mimic the exact process just so I could wear them to school.”
“I also realized that although I loved working with my hands, I didn’t like making too many clothes at the same time.”
“So I decided to make designs and pay a tailor to make them for me. I started 2017 but the business crashed because I was being too sentimental with my family and friends. So I’ve decided to start again but I want to gain enough knowledge and also get funding for it so I can do it right this time.”
“My inspiration can come from anywhere. The last one was from my mother. I saw some of her old pictures and thought to myself, what if I made some of those styles come back?”
Speaking further on what she does to improve her business, she says “I always try to go for fashion shows. The last one I went for, a friend of mine was their hair stylist and I helped out in some things. I also watched the designers as they dressed up their models and I could tell that they loved what they were doing. I want to be able to do that.
She is also looking to get mentorship and also a cash grant for her business.
Lilian Uche also gave her opinion on youth empowerment, “I think youth empowerment is an excellent program and it has helped many youths and driven them out of the streets. Nigerian youth can be empowered by exactly what The Spark is doing. The only thing is that it needs to be expanded so it can reach the youth in remote areas.
