Ifedilichukwu Chibuike, also known as Ifedili, is an Innovative Artist and an Art Instructor. “I source my materials from the environment and work through different mediums and with various materials depending on the goal.”
On how he started on the career path, he says, “I never knew that one day I would be a graduate though I had a dream of becoming a pilot back then in secondary and my fellow students called me “PC the Pilot” while others referred to me as an artist due to my craftsmanship. I later got admission to study Fine and Applied Arts. That was how it all started.”
The art Instructor mentioned the challenges that he has encountered since he started. Well the challenges are many but to mention few; making the choice of a career was a difficult moment for me but I thank God at last I took the right decision of becoming an artist. Notwithstanding, creating art pieces and pushing it to the art market has not been easy all at. Late 2017, I was the overall winner among the 4 winners of the 2017 Sterling Bank Plc Recycle-art Competition and that gave me limelight to my art practice. I have this idea of bring art world to the eastern part of Nigeria by creating world classic gallery/market for art and challenges are promotion, support and funding.”
He draws inspiration from the environment based on every day activities and his mentor, Dr. Ayo Adewunmi, art teacher/lecturer at Institute of Management and Technology Enugu, founder of Art is Everywhere project, and a contemporary Nigeria artist.
Ifedili says the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Community Development Service (CDS) project for the people of Enugu during his service year was a project that increased his belief in himself. He was able to erect a 10 feet monument titled “Education Light of the World”, renovate and equip the student art studio and gallery, organise a seminar on breast, cervical cancer and HIV/AIDS, seminar on career choices, Art and Culture, children Art workshop, exhibition and competition.
“After all these, I received “The State Governor’s NYSC Honour Award” as best corps member in appreciation of my outstanding performance and meritorious service to the people of Enugu State as a corps member for the Batch ‘A’ 2014 Service Year.”
Now, he is hoping to have gallery of art far better than you can find anywhere in the world and become a renowned art collector and educationist.
He also gave his opinion on youth empowerment. “It is a welcome development but constitutional position of Nigeria is not fair at all. The Nigerian youth can only be empowered by themselves; I mean start something with that your small skill work/business today and it will turn to become mighty tomorrow.”
