Charles Obinna Rienne, also known as iCharley sources products and sells online through Jumia, Konga and his social handles.
Speaking about how he started, he says, “I started by selling certain items people need. I go source for the item, propose it to those who need it and sometimes get them to buy from me. Until I found out Jumia and Konga accept vendor about a year ago. I registered and I have been selling with them and with my initial method as well.
Charles draws inspiration from my Dad. “Back in the days when he did business, he never failed in any business he started as long as his heart was in it. Now he’s a pastor and if that’s a business too, then he’s doing extremely well.”
“I also draw inspiration from my environment, top business tycoons like Dangote, Joy Amanama (Jumia CEO), funny enough Musicians like Davido and others who feeds the needs of their fans for entertainment.”
He mentioned being successful at selling airtime when he was in school as a time that motivated him to do more.
“I literally saw how students were crazy about the need for airtime for calls and browsing. To get airtime in the hostel would cost you about #100 of transportation. So I got my Dad to send me airtime codes, which my younger brother would type in as text messages and send to me. I sold #100 worth of MTN and Airtel airtime for #150 and made money as a young student.
Now, he is seeking for more capital to push further sales on Jumia and Konga. “Current capital and income allows me to do a few items less than 3 in a week.”
Youth empowerment is the only weapon that can cause or fast track an underdeveloped or a developing country into a developed country,” he opines.
“Nigerian youths can only be empowered when they are presented with a chance to exhibit their ideas, get counsellors and funding or be launched into the world.”
