Barbara Chukwuamaka Uba is a trader, who deals in female wears and accessories.
She started her business after her youth service with the little money she realised from her monthly allowances during the service year.
On her source of inspiration, she has this to say, “I draw my inspiration from most of my industrious friends who I did business with back then in the university. I got inspired so much by my level mate and friend who was producing pop corn at the school gate.”
“Also, attending entrepreneurship class and being taught about entrepreneurship both in university and during NYSC really brought out the entrepreneurial spirit in me. I was inspired more with the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) that was organized by NYSC to help graduates to stand out and be independent before the employment opportunities came.”
When asked about the project she ventured in that increased her belief in herself, she says, “Back then in the university, I engaged in buying and selling of female wears and jewelleries which I continued after my youth service before I had an accident. But being successful in it helped me with the decision to start a business after my NYSC.”
Moving forward, as a graduate I am seeking for employment opportunities in my field of study and I would like to get support (financially and in every other way) to start up my own clothing line and hopefully, have international appeal.
Barbara also gave her opinion on youth empowerment in Nigeria. “The Nigerian youth would be empowered if both governmental and non-governmental organizations would organize seminars and workshops on the importance of entrepreneurship, give lectures on entrepreneurial development, and create opportunities for skills acquisition for both graduates and undergraduates.
