Meet Amarachi – The Fashion Designer

Amarachi Eruoji is a Fashion Designer, the CEO of Amarz Fashion Place. She started her business when she was an undergraduate at Delta State University. Due to the distance between her school in Delta state to her home in Lagos, she was able to persuade her dad to let her stay back in school during short breaks to learn fashion.

She stated that she chose fashion designing because she loved the idea of being responsible for the outfit of her family. After her training, she started sewing dresses for herself that soon drew admirers and ultimately, customers.

When asked about her challenges, Amarachi mentioned crossing hurdles at different junctures of her life. However, she stated that the biggest challenge was that of stability. When she had to go serve in Niger state, she had to borrow a sewing machine to continue her work and when she went for her Master’s program in Ibadan, it was difficult shuffling from one location to another just to sew. It did affect her productivity rate.

Fortunately, she is beginning to put things better in place, she says.

The Holy Spirit, whom she calls the Spirit of excellence, is Amarachi’s greatest inspiration.

And when she works on a customer’s fabric and they come back satisfied, she is encouraged in no small way that she is getting a hang of her craft.

She admitted, nonetheless, to be open to mentor-ship and advanced training in Fashion designing. Also, she is looking for opportunities to attract sponsors and investors for the purpose of expansion.

On her opinion on youth empowerment, she opined that,

“I think Youth empowerment should be the focus of any nation that wants to achieve National Development. I believe that if youths are empowered, they will be the driving force of National growth. The Nigerian Youth can be empowered through comprehensive mentoring and early exposure to global business standard and practices; creation and enactment of policies that encourages innovative solutions to community problems/needs; and sufficient funding. I have discovered that Nigerian Youths are creative and hardworking people. Give them the morale booster and watch them do amazing things.”
