Adebusayo Olayode, also known as MCcubed, designs and makes dresses & accessories for girls 12years and below as well as produces bridal accessories and gift boxes.
She says, on talking about how she started, “I am a naturally creative person. Most of the skills were self-taught as a teenager and undergraduate. I later attended training to upgrade and update my skills. However my decision to dress girls started with the birth of my first daughter. I started dressing her and I got a lot of positive comments. My mum’s best friend encouraged and kept pushing me to go commercial but I declined until after the birth of my second daughter. I went fully commercial, December 2016.”
Her major challenges were funding for the type of equipment she wanted, unavailability of locally produced raw materials & accessories and scarcity of reliable and appropriately trained human resources.
The serial designer draws inspiration from God and nature, which she describes as God’s creation. She also draws inspiration from every entrepreneur that she has the opportunity to come across.
Answering the question on the project she embarked on that increased her belief in herself; she mentioned designing for the weddings in her family and having to dress her daughters.
Busayo is open to collaborations and partnerships. “I would love to be involved with kids’ fashion on any platform. I would also love to work with teenagers and young adults especially in the area of creative skills and career choice.”
Youth empowerment, in her opinion, is key to the development of any nation. “The youth have energy and time on their side. The Nigerian Youth can be empowered by good leadership (in terms of providing direction), education, training in specific skill, that is, skill acquisition and access to funding.”
