Manny Pacquiao fought well to win the WBO welterweight title on Saturday night, beating the champion Jessie Vargas after a unanimous decision.
Pacquiao, who had earlier retired from boxing in April but made his return to the ring on Saturday night, won 114-113 on one judge’s scorecard, and by a runaway margin of 118-109 on the other two.
It wasn’t one of Pacquiao’s best performances but it was enough as the 37-year old employed his experience and light feet to beat Vargas at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao’s former world title rival Floyd Mayweather Jr had taken up a ringside seat some minutes before the main event, and gave the new champion a thumbs up after the fight.
Is a repeat of the 2015 bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao soon to happen?
