Two goals by Robert Lewandowski ensured that Bayern Munich were crowned Bundesliga champions for the 26th time with a game to spare.
Bayern have now won the German title four seasons in a row after beating Ingolstadt 2-1 at the Audi Sportpark. It also means that the Bavarians have won the league title in each of Pep Guardiola’s three seasons in charge.
Lewandowski had opened the scoring for Bayern from the penalty spot after Marvin Matip fouled Franck Ribery inside the Ingolstadt penalty area. The Polish striker then doubled the lead after a sublime pass from Xabi Alonso. Bayern’s lead was then halved when Moritz Hartmann converted a penalty of his own after he was brought down by Xabi Alonso.
Borussia Dortmund, the only team that could have caught the Munich side endured a 1-0 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt which meant that Guardiola’s side stayed eight points clear of their nearest rivals going into the final weekend of the league campaign.
