Two persons have been killed by Lassa fever in Ondo State says the State Government.
The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanyu at a Lassa prevention stakeholders meeting organised for health workers, religious, opinion and traditional leaders in Akure the State Capital.
The commissioner said that the deceased were part of 31 people placed under close monitoring because they had contact with an infected person. He also said that one of the victims came in from the neigbouring state, Edo.
Dr. Adeyanyu further said that Ondo State was activating its surveillance mechanism to ensure the disease does not spread and that outbreak control teams at the local government level have been re-activated, while emergency lines have been released to the public, as well as intensified warnings on television and radio.
He advised the religious leaders present not to harbour any sick person showing signs of the disease but refer them to the nearest hospital for immediate attention.
