Raji Mohammed Babatunde is a Visual Artist based in Lagos. “I am an impressionist who expresses himself in different drawing and painting medium; a protégé of Ebenezer Akinola.
“I started my art career from primary school when I drew comics and cars in all my notebooks. In 2005, I gained admission to Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin majoring in Fine and Applied Art.”
“I trained at Universal Studios of Art for 4 months in 2008 before proceeding to train under Ebenezer Akinola in 2009. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2015 and he is the Founder and Space Coordinator of Space29.7, Lagos (a space into fine art, photography, art education, fashion and art consultancy).”
“My works are in notable collections both home and abroad and have been exhibiting since 2011 include a solo exhibition at Alexis gallery in 2015.”
Speaking about his art, Raji says, “My art portrays human relationship, memories of happenings, facial expressions suggesting innocence, beauty, expectations, calm, directions etc. My aim is to make the viewers of my works to be able to view and connect to a particular moment in their lives mostly pleasurable and unforgettable times.”
He is mostly inspired by works of both Nigerian and foreign artists, happenings around him and mood of people.
