The 400 level student of Civil Engineering at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike started drawing at a very tender age. “I use to replicate pictures from story books and novels with pencil and crayons, comics and cartoons too. I also found myself amongst peers in secondary school who love to draw.”

“Growing up as an artistic little boy was not that easy in a typical disciplined Nigerian home where the stereotype that art is worthless exists. You dare not spend your time on drawing when you have school work and activities around. That made me stop drawing for years until got into the university.”

However, during my second year in the university, I came back to my art life, I met a friend Obinka, an artist too, he draws so well and I was motivated by what he does. I was so inspired that I went back into art with all my soul; I found a new world of mentors online as I researched deeply into contemporary art.”

“Through practice, I found myself in hyperrealism; a genre of art that involves rendering realistic drawings so it looks very real like a photograph. I currently do hyperrealism with graphite and charcoal, I started this in 2017. Exhibitions are part of my schedule next year.”

“My artwork portrays more about history, traditions and culture of humans especially the African race. I tend to bring back memories, great deeds, lost ways and practices of humanity.”

“Looking at the world in general today with its growth in population and cutting edge technology which is being used in almost every aspect of life, humanity tends to lose the great values of culture and beautiful old ways of life abound with respect, love and value for life. I draw inspiration from history, present and future deeds of humanity.”
