Germany had a moment of victory on Friday as their U-21 side defeated Spain’s and claim the European U21 Championship. Mitchell Weiser’s header in the first half was enough to get the Germans through.
Having not won the title since 2009, Germany had a poorer recent history in U21 finals compared to their opponents who were looking to win a third title in the last four outings.
Germany had overcome England on penalties in the semi final game to book a spot in the final against Spain who walloped Italy 3-1 in the other semi final fixture, Saul Niguez bagged a hatrick in that game.
Spain boasted the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Marcos Acensio and Sandro Ramirez in a team filled with youth prospects.
Germany, captained by new Bayern Munich signing Serge Gnabry also had a host of youth talent on display, despite having had a good number of U21 players selected by the senior national team to play in the ongoing confederations cup.
