Fans of popular TV show, Game of Thrones now have the information they have been waiting for. HBO announced on Thursday that the 7th season of the fantasy show will premiere on July 16.
In a marketing gimmick video, HBO revealed the premiere date in a Live video. Fans were made to comment “Fire” as they watched a torch melt gthe ice for over an hour to reveal the air date.
The stunt raised reactions on Twitter, where #GoTS7 remained one of the top trending hashtags worldwide for hours after the announcement.
“Whoever is in charge of the @GameofThrones S7 premiere date reveal is getting a visit from Septa Unella,” tweeted one frustrated fan.
“Next year, @HBO, a press release will do,” said fan account @BeautyBrienne.
Fans of “Game of Thrones” are used to seeing seasons premier in the spring, but the production team had to push back the shooting for this year’s season to allow for colder weather conditions at the show’s outdoor locations to properly depict ‘Winter’, which the story has since kept on suspence.
Speaking in a podcast, executive producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss said: “We pushed everything down the line to get some grim, grey weather, even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”
The announcement of the air date for the 7th season of HBO’s most watched series is good news for fans but one they might have to take with a little bit of sad feeling as well. Creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed that there will only be 13 more episodes of the show, split over two abbreviated seasons — seven this year, six in 2018.
Brace yourself fans of Game of Thrones…Winter is coming!
