On Sunday, some Fulani herdsmen invaded Ubuneke- Ivbiaro Community in Owan East local government area of Edo state, raping a married woman and inflicting serious injuries on her husband while they were at their farm.
According to Mr Umoru Agunu, the husband of the rape victim, the armed herdsmen who were about six in number, invaded his farm at about 10:30am on Sunday, pounced on him and gang-raped his wife at a close distance while taking hold of another woman suspected to also be their victim.
“I arrived at my farm with my wife, then I saw six armed herdsmen demanding for my phone but when I told them I didn’t have any; they beat me up mercilessness and took my wife to a distance where she was raped by two of the men. They were also with a young woman who probably is their victim,” he explained.
Commenting on the incident, Yakubu Ibrahim, one of the leaders in the community noted that armed herdsmen have laid siege to the community, added that life in the community has become unbearable and inhabitable as a result of the activities of the armed men who have constantly kidnapped, raped women and physical assault on residents.
