Abdulwaheed Olaniyan, also known as Joker, is an artist from Ibadan, who has a bond with the African culture and Nigeria.
The student of TASUED and lover of the works of Pablo Picasso and Edger Degas started art in primary school.
“I started art in primary school, drawing comics and cartoons in newspapers. When I got to secondary school, I took Fine Art from SS1 to SS3 and got an A1 in WAEC.”
“I got admitted into TASUED, studying Fine and Applied Art. Presently, I do art for a living; focusing on Adire and painting.”
The crisis at a particular point in time, history, personal thoughts, and emotions inspire his art.
Giving his opinion on art and culture in Nigeria, he has this to say, “Art and culture in Nigeria are not where I want it to be but it’s a gradual process. It needs to be invested in a lot because it will serve as a form of tourism and consequently, a source of income for the country.”
