Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph has queried the rationale behind the purported plan by the Nigeria Football Federation to suspend Super Eagles’ captain Vincent Enyeama, asking “if Enyeama is suspended who will be in goal for Nigeria?”
Dosu said the NFF might jeopardise the Super Eagles AFCON 2017 qualifiers if it goes ahead with the said plan.
Enyeama had torn a query that was issued to him after making a statement the NFF considered unprofessional and unethical, the Lille of France goalkeeper was summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee of the NFF on Tuesday but failed to show up.
The federation is therefore threatening to slam heavy sanctions on the Super Eagles captain. However Dosu told Daily Trust said even as the goalkeeper is not indispensable, at the moment, he is simply the best and cannot be kept aside over a minor issue.
“I want to advise both parties to tread softly on this matter. It is not good for the team now that we are playing the qualifiers for AFCON 2017.
“ The whole issue shouldn’t have been blown out. When he made that statement, the federation should have invited him to a meeting and explained to him the implications of his statement.
“Instead he was issued a query immediately. Now everybody is talking about it and it is generating unnecessary tension”.
Dosu who said Enyeama tore the query given to him due to the heat of the moment said those in charge of football in the country are proving to be incompetent in players’ management.
“Football is managed in the proper way. I do not want to talk anything against anybody but I believe if we have the right person in there managing our football, we won’t be having problems of this nature.
“Every time there is a problem of one player or the other. I think they should just tread softly on this one,” he stated.
