Salami Shedrack Ojonugwa, also known as Xtrovarts, is a self-taught contemporary creative artist with a unique taste of creativity. “Aside drawing, I am also a Craftsman; I make handmade customized necklaces. I as well have vast experience in Graphic designing. “
The final year Sociology student talked about how he started. “As the Quote implies, ‘every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.’ I started working on my artistic skill at a very tender age back then in my secondary school where I found myself drawing for my classmates whenever we were given Fine Art and Intro-Tech assignments. The main journey actually started during my first year in the University.
“I got motivated to start my brand (Xtrovarts) and go deeper into the work after I was brought to lime light in an event where I made a portrait for Nigerian’s famous rapper Vector tha viper and Hdunni Entertainment (Minds + Swags C.E.O). That day, I was specially called upon amidst the crowd and I presented the work to them live on stage right before hundreds of Kogi state university’s students. This event will forever remain a remarkable day for me.
“In a nutshell, Instagram and Facebook have also contributed massively as well. I discovered that people usually gave great comments about my works on these social media platforms. With all these I got the enthusiasm to focus and work hard to get to the peak and make an impact via Arts.
“By Grace I have been able to meet in person and present Artworks to a lot of Nigerian celebrities; the likes of 2face idibia, Orezi, Falz, Burna boy, Juliet Ibrahim to mention but a few.”
Going further, he says, “I am currently working on a project which I call ARTWRITE. This initiative is aimed at giving voice to Young people around the World through Arts/Writing. I created this as a result of things I see going on around me. There are a lot of kids and even adults out there who are suffering from emotional trauma and all. With various works of Arts, Articles, Photographs, Short stories and even Short movies relating to stuffs like that, I hope I can help this set of people come to term with their emotions in various situations as well as making a difference with Arts and Writing.
