The decaying body has created panic in Ibukun Oluwa Community, Oworonshoki where the body has been left for days. Residents in the community are afraid that the swollen body may burst and the result could be dangerous.

According to Punch, the stench from the decomposing body is so enormous that residents have to cover their nose and hurry when they walk by revealing the extent of the bad odour.

The residents are concerned that the unattended body is unhygienic and can cause an epidemic.

Elijah Akinpelu who is a community leader said that the dead man was a familiar person in the community and that he covered the body with a piece of cloth.

“He has been around this community for the past four years. He did not seem to have any mental problem.

“The police once came to chase out some homeless people, but they left him. He died on Saturday evening. He fell to the ground, but somebody carried him to the seat. He has been in that position since Saturday”.

Officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and police were said to have visited the garden but had left without doing anything.

A cleaner who tended to the garden reported that he had alerted the authorities immediately he got to work on Monday and discovered the body.

“I was not around on the Saturday the man died. But when I resumed, I called the attention of my boss to it and he immediately called those at the state secretariat. They promised to come and evacuate the corpse, but they didn’t show up.

“Some KAI officers have visited this place and after looking at the corpse, they left. The police around the Iyana Oworo Berger area also did nothing.”

Banjo Adekunle who resides in the community showed his displeasure at the manner in which the corpse has been abandoned citing the health implication of such.

“The corpse has been there for the past four days and nothing has been done. The police are supposed to barricade the area so that children will not go there,”

The police through its Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Nwosu revealed that the police were collaborating with appropriate agencies to remove the decomposing body.

“The corpse has been there for the past four days and nothing has been done. The police are supposed to barricade the area so that children will not go there,” he said.
