Colette Otusheso Empowers One Female Youth with 3 Months Paid Internship

Dear 18 year old Colette,

I am writing you this letter to let you know that whatever you are going through right now, is exactly how it is supposed to be. I know you don’t believe me, but guess what? You are going to be fine, and you’re going to make it. You are going to have an amazing life, sojust trust the process and let God do the rest.

First, I want you to know that life really is yours for the taking. You can be who you want to be, you can do what you want to do and you can achieve all you want to achieve, including your biggest dreams. Just trust the process and believe in yourself. Remember that you do not need to have your whole life planned out but have an idea of where you want to end up and go for it. Make sure you enjoy the rollercoaster ride to getting there.

So, you’ve just started University and you are having the time of your life. You are away from home, you are making new friends and you are doing exactly what you have always wanted to do. Don’t be shy, come out of your comfort zone because you are going to meet some amazing people. And your friends Dionne, Lorraine and Ozuola will still be there 20 years later, so make sure you keep them close. But here are some words of advice for you…

Do not spend all your money on shopping and holidays. Be more financially suave, save for a rainy day,and start investing in property. Remember it’s never too early and you will be glad for it in about 20 years’ time.

University will be great. When it’s over, what next? Where does your passion really lie? Make sure you follow your passion and do something you are really passionate about. Don’t worry, you made the right choice by switching from your love of fashion and technology to media and communications, you will end up loving what you do and you will make a great career of it.

Make sure you do that internship, it is a MUST. It will ignite the Spark that you have been searching for. Yes, it’s tough right now, and you are working so hard and not getting paid, but guess what? You have always loved media and entertainment, stick to it because you will learn so much and it will change your life. You will also meet people that will become lifelong friends and will impact you and the life decisions that you make.

Now you know what you want to do and it’s great that you’re going back to school to study media and communications. Do not let cute boys and partying distract you, you will regret it in the long run.

Continue to work hard, you think no one is watching, but the world is working in your favour and it will all make sense soon. Travel more, discover the world, meet new and interesting people, expand your mind, read more and enjoy your life. But always remember, your education is very important and learning to make the best of your finances is also very important. So again, don’t overspend!

Do not let being shy stop you from doing great things. Setting up your Events and PR Company“PUSH”, with your best friend is one of the best things you will do in your 20’s. You will create some of the best experiences in London, and you will create a movement of amazing young free spirits. This will leave a lasting positive energy in their hearts for a long time.

Not every friendship lasts forever, and you will learn to let go of things and people that are not right for you. However you have to take the positive experiences and use them to be a wiser, better version of yourself.

Family is important and you will appreciate them more than ever. You will make mistakes, but all the experiences you will have, both good and bad (but mainly good) will help create the amazing, God fearing, beautiful, smart, kind, loving, supporting, wife, mother, sister, friend and woman you are today.

Try not to compare yourself with others. Trust your gut feelings and do not be influenced by everything you see on social media, a lot of it is not real life. Support, mentor, help and empower people. Also be kind to people because you will experience many forms of kindness in your life, be sure to show kindness back.

Success means a lot of things but figure out what it means to you and work towards your success goals, it can be big or small but make sure you have the goals to work towards.

Take that pay cut that opens the door to the career you want, work hard and make the job your own. Build great networks of friends and colleagues. Enjoy your dream job and when the job to run Accelerate for Access Bank comes up, take it, make it your own, build an amazing team of young people, love it and learn from your mentors.

Remember, life will never go as planned, but all the decisions you have ever made have brought you to this point, so you made the right choices and I am very proud of you.

Enjoy your adulthood because no one will tell you this. It’s tough being an adult! Lol! Make the best of your 20’s, enjoy your life, love, your friendships and have fun. Plan better, be financially aware, be brave, be smart, don’t be afraid to do anything and always remember to live life and love.

Love from,

P.S. In order to fast track the success of one youth, I’d love to give mentorship, a paid internship for three months at AccelerateTV, training in media and any other form of empowerment that’ll be helpful.
