French media reports that an avalanche has struck a school group in the French Alps, leaving one 14-year-old boy dead and leaving five pupils missing.
At least two of the survivors are in a state of cardiac arrest and one more is in a serious condition, officials said.
A report from Le Dauphine states that the group of nine students and their teacher had been skiing in the Les Deux Alpes area on a closed piste.
Two police helicopters and an emergency rescue helicopter are on the scene along with around 30 mountain rescuers, says another report.
The victims were found by a ski patrol and have been taken to a hospital in Grenoble.
