Barcelona have confirmed that the club will host Chapecoense in a friendly game as tribute to the players and staff of the Brazilian team who died in a plane crash last November.
The game will take place on 7 August and it will help “rebuild institutionally and recover the competitive level it had before the tragedy” according to a statement from Barcelona club hierarchy.
It will be recalled that Chapecoense lost club staff wen 71 of the 77 people on board a club aircraft crashed on 29 November 2016. Only 3 players survived the crash.
The annual invitational game is traditionally where Barcelona unveil their team for the new season to home fans. The winner of the game at Camp Nou will receive the Joan Gamper Trophy.
