Another fire has yet again tore through a market in Kano, this time the Gwarzo furniture market in Gwarzo Local Government Area, destroying property worth millions of Naira.
According to an eye witness narrative to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Friday, the fire began around 1 a.m. Fire fighters battled for hours before putting it off. Further reports said that the inferno ravaged through many shops within the vicinity of the furniture section of the market.
Director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan confirmed the incident. According to him, the fire started around 1:55am and destroyed 30 shops at the furniture section of the market.
“We got the report of the incident around 1:45am and our men in Gwarzo office were able to quench the fire around 3:45am on Friday.
“Our preliminary investigation has indicated that in an attempt to burn the sawdust, the fire spread to the shops and other places,” he said.
